Between many worlds, walking a path to become oneself.
《萬靈嶼人》以太巴塱 Sisakawihay Marang Panay 為主角，跟隨他的腳步走進部落儀式現場、大學講堂與家庭日常。透過族語、祈禱與儀式，他回應族人的託付與需要，也在一次次的實踐中承擔 Sisakawihay 的責任，思考傳統信仰如何在當代繼續被實踐。
離開儀式現場，Marang 也是母親的孩子。面對虔誠信奉天主教的母親，阿美族傳統信仰與天主教在同一個家庭中相遇。不同的信仰沒有切斷親情，反而讓彼此學習理解、陪伴與共存。

The film centers on Sisakawihay Marang Panay, following him as he navigates tribal ceremonies, university lecture halls, and daily family life. Through his native language, prayers, and rituals, he responds to the entrustments and needs of his people. Through these repeated acts, he fulfills his responsibilities as a Sisakawihay while reflecting on how traditional beliefs can continue to be practiced in the modern world.
Away from the ritual site, Marang is simply his mother’s son. With a mother who is a devout Catholic, the traditional Amis faith and Catholicism coexist within the same household. These differing faiths have not severed their familial bonds. Instead, they have allowed them to learn to understand, support, and coexist with one another.

The film does not view Sisakawihay through a lens of mystery or curiosity. Starting from faith, family, and daily life, it shows how a person navigates cultural responsibility, family relationships, and modern life. Tradition is not left in the past, but continues to unfold within a person’s life.
Among the myriad spirits, learning to be human.
On the island of myriad phenomena, living as one’s true self.
The film documents not merely the identity of a Sisakawihay, but how a person, navigating among many worlds, comes to understand where they come from and, step by step, becomes their true self.

「《萬靈嶼人》想說的，並不是要觀眾相信某一種神祕力量，而是希望我們重新學習謙卑，重新看見人並不是世界唯一的主人。當我們願意傾聽萬物，也許就能再次聽見祖先的聲音，並找到自己在這座島嶼上的位置。」
“The film does not seek to convince the audience to believe in some mysterious force. It hopes we will relearn humility and see once again that humans are not the sole masters of the world. When we are willing to listen to all things, perhaps we can hear the voices of our ancestors once more and find our place on this island.”

林光亮，族名 Fuday Ciyo，來自花蓮縣玉里鎮織羅部落的阿美族（Pangcah），為南島映像有限公司負責人。創作扎根於花東部落的生活經驗，關注文化傳承、青年認同、土地記憶，以及臺灣原住民族與南島世界的連結。
身為部落的一員，他將自身的參與、疑問與文化責任帶入鏡頭，透過人物的生命故事，探問傳統如何在當代延續，以及族人如何在社會變動中理解自己的位置。他的影像在日常生活、祭儀與公共舞台之間，呈現文化實踐中的情感、矛盾與選擇。
Documentary director and video producer Lin Guang-liang, tribal name Fuday Ciyo, comes from the Amis (Pangcah) of the Zhiluo tribe in Yuli Township, Hualien County, and is the head of Austronesian Image Co., Ltd. His creations are rooted in the life experiences of the Hualien and Taitung tribes, focusing on cultural heritage, youth identity, land memory, and the connection between Taiwan's indigenous peoples and the Austronesian world. As a member of the tribe, he brings his own participation, questions, and cultural responsibilities into the lens, exploring through the life stories of his people how tradition continues in the present day and how his tribe members understand their place amid social change. His images present emotions, conflicts, and choices in cultural practice between daily life, rituals, and public stages.

Sisakawihay of the Tafalong Tribe, cultural practitioner.
自幼承接家族與傳統信仰的文化脈絡，經歷長年的學習與實踐，成為太巴塱部落的 Sisakawihay。長期投入阿美族傳統信仰、靈觀、族語與文化傳承的實踐，並透過講座、教學、田野交流與公共行動，讓傳統知識進入當代生活。
他的工作不只是回應族人的生命需要，也持續思考，當傳統信仰走進現代社會，它如何繼續被理解、被實踐，又如何成為新世代認識自己與文化的方式。
From a young age, he inherited the cultural heritage of his family and traditional beliefs. Through years of study and practice, he became the Sisakawihay of the Tafalong Tribe. He has long been dedicated to the practice of the Amis traditional faith, spiritual observation, the tribal language, and cultural heritage.
His work addresses the life needs of his people while reflecting on how traditional beliefs can continue to be understood and practiced in modern society, and how they can help a new generation understand themselves and their culture.

我一直覺得，能夠讓一個人真正理解一種文化，並不是告訴他「我們是什麼」，而是讓他有機會走進我們怎麼生活。
所以，當你看見《萬靈嶼人》的時候，我並不期待你一定要相信我的信仰，也不期待你在看完之後，就能理解 Sisakawihay 的世界。
我只是想邀請你，先陪我走一段路。
走進我的儀式，也走進我的家，看見我如何面對族人的託付，也看見我如何面對自己的生命。

對我而言，傳統從來不是停留在過去的東西。
它一直在今天發生，也一直在問著我們，當世界不斷改變，我們還能不能記得自己從哪裡來，又要怎麼在這個時代，繼續成為自己。
也許你看見的，是一個 Sisakawihay 的故事。
但我更希望，當電影結束之後，你也能回頭看看自己的生命。
看看你的家人、你的土地、你的信仰，以及那些曾經影響你成為現在這個人的人。
因為我相信，我們每一個人，都活在許多世界之間。
而我們終其一生，都在學習一件事情，如何成為自己。
I’ve always believed that the way to help someone truly understand a culture isn’t by telling them “who we are,” but by giving them the opportunity to experience how we live.
So, when you watch the film, I don’t expect you to necessarily embrace my faith, nor do I expect you to fully understand the world of Sisakawihay after watching it.
I simply want to invite you to walk a part of the journey with me.
Step into my rituals and into my home. See how I honor the trust placed in me by my people, and see how I face my own life.

For me, tradition is never something confined to the past.
It is constantly unfolding in the present, and it keeps asking us whether we can still remember where we come from and continue to be ourselves as the world changes.
Perhaps what you’ll see is the story of Sisakawihay.
But what I hope even more is that, once the film ends, you’ll look back at your own life.
Look at your family, your land, your faith, and the people who have shaped you into who you are today.
Because I believe that each of us lives between many worlds.
And throughout our lives, we’re learning one thing, how to be ourselves.
